ELECTION INFORMATION
City of Cleveland General Election will be held Saturday, May 2nd, 2026. Early Voting for the General Election, will be between April 20 - 28, 2026. Positions for Election are the following:

The City of Cleveland governing body consist of a Mayor and six (6) Council Persons.
The City of Cleveland General Election is held on the 1st Saturday in May of each year. The Mayor and each Council Person shall hold office for three(3) year terms.
In an election to the office of mayor or councilmember, where no candidate receives a majority of all the votes cast for such office at such election, the city council shall, immediately upon declaring the official results of the election, issue a call for a runoff election for every office to which no one was elected. Such runoff election shall be held on such date as established by law. In such runoff election the two (2) candidates who received the highest number of votes for such office shall be voted on again, and the candidate who receives the majority of the votes for such office in the runoff election shall be elected to such office.
The City of Cleveland's General Election will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at the Cleveland Civic Center located at 210 Peach Ave, and other locations set by the Liberty County Elections Administrator. Filing for a place on the ballot is set by state statute and takes place from January 14 – February 13, 2026. Positions up for election are Council Member Positions 3, 4, 5 and 6. Early Voting for the 2026 General Election, will be between April 20 - 28, 2026.
Campaign Finance Reports
In compliance with H.B. 2626 (88th Legislature), relating to the availability of certain reports of political contributions and expenditures, these reports will be available on this page for five (5) years from the date of filing. The redactions on the reports are in compliance with the bill specifications and are only received by the Local Filing Authority (City Secretary). Any questions or complaints related to the content in the reports or the failure to submit reports should be directed to the Texas Ethics Commission, who is the regulatory authority for campaign finance reports.

Qualifications for Mayor or Councilmember
3.02 QUALIFICATIONS:
The Mayor shall be a resident citizen of the City of Cleveland, at least twenty-one (21) years of age, and a qualified voter of the State of Texas: and shall have been a resident of the City of Cleveland for a period of not less than twelve (12) months immediately preceding his election.
Each Councilman shall be a resident citizen of the City of Cleveland, at least twenty-one (21) years of age, and shall have been a resident of the City of Cleveland for a period of at least twelve (12) months immediately preceding the election, shall be a qualified voter of the State of Texas, and shall not be indebted to the City of Cleveland. If the Mayor or any Council member fails to maintain the foregoing qualifications or shall be absent from three consecutive regularly scheduled meetings without valid excuse, or shall move from the legally established boundaries of the City of Cleveland, the City Council must at its next regular meeting declare a vacancy to exist and shall fill said vacancy as set forth in Section 3.06 of this charter.
